Friday’s Challenge Cup final between Bristol Bears and Toulon in France will have a limited crowd of 1,000 spectators, the European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) said on Monday after it received permission from local authorities.
The match is set to be played at the Stade Maurice David in Aix-en-Provence which has a capacity of over 6,400.
Despite neither side having lifted the trophy before, the two have very different recent histories both domestically and in Europe.
Bristol are looking to secure their first significant piece of silverware for 37 years, whereas Toulon are aiming for their fourth European trophy in the last decade.

However, the top-tier Champions Cup final between Exeter Chiefs and Racing 92 will be played without spectators at Ashton Gate Stadium on Saturday. Bristol will need to bounce back quickly from a 47-24 drubbing at the Ricoh Arena as they target their first European trophy.
English clubs have won 11 of the 23 previous Challenge Cup final, with Bristol and Toulon both unbeaten in this season's tournament. They meet at the 6,000-capacity Stade Maurice David in Aix-en-Provence, 20 miles from Marseille, with the Bristol squad travelling on Thursday via a charter flight, then returning first thing Saturday morning.
